A new multifractal-based grain size distribution model

چکیده

Previous works related to the application of multifractal theory for analyzing grain size distribution (GSD), showed potential this approach deal with complex issue. However, absence practical kind statistical analysis raised some doubts among soil scientists. Compared experimental dry sieving method, which is based on mass representations different sizes, presented in work relies densities (density indicators) scanned by means X-ray CT (Computed Tomography). By reducing resolution image(s), cumulative representation solid particles equal or larger than actual discretization element can be determined, and described analytically universal multifractals (UM). For validation new UM approach, results three soils were used: volcanic substrate covering Green Wave (a green roof Champs-sur-Marne France), two horizons collected from low land mountain area Sierra de Guadarrama Spain. Comparison between proposed model data these materials confirms that GSD reasonably well predicted images wide range sizes. The model, unlike fractal-based models, accounts fractal dimension depends size, hence, preliminary work, it could rather useful case multi-modal whose curves are multiple dimensions.

Mono-Size Distribution Index (MSDI): A new criterion for the quantitative description of size distribution

Graphical size distribution is widely used in different fields of science and studies related to powders, droplets, bubbles, and pores. However, in some condition it may also be necessary to express the size distribution quantitatively. In spite of there being several suggested ways to quantify size distribution in the literature, some of these approaches are not applicable for many methods and...

Grain size, size-distribution and dislocation structure

Diffraction peak profile analysis (or Line Profile Analysis, LPA) has recently been developed to such an extent that it can be applied as a powerful method for the characterization of microstructures of crystalline materials in terms of crystallite size-distribution and dislocation structures. Physically based theoretical functions and their Fourier coefficients are available for both, the size...

multifractal characteristics of soil particle size distribution and effect of biological soil crusts on multifractal spectrum

soil particle-size distribution (psd) is one of the most important physical attributes due to its great influence on soil physical, chemical, and biological properties. water infiltration rate, land-use change, soil erosion, and biological soil crusts (bscs) may influence psd in a soil. the multifractal measures were useful tools in characterization of psd in soils. the objective of the current...

A Size-dependent Bernoulli-Euler Beam Formulation based on a New Model of Couple Stress Theory

In this paper, a size-dependent formulation for the Bernoulli-Euler beam is developed based on a new model of couple stress theory presented by Hadjesfandiari and Dargush. The constitutive equation obtained in this new model, consists of only one length scale parameter that is capable of capturing the micro-structural size effect in predicting the mechanical behavior of the structure. Having on...

Grain size measurement using distribution classification

The concept of grain size distribution is important in many industrial processes. In this study, rolled chrome concentrate was investigated to find the average grain size. Distribution classification was used with covariance, gray level difference, LBP, Laws and color features. As a comparison cooccurrence features were used. Classification was performed by a distribution classifier using leave...
